Matthew Exley

An award-winning emergency manager, Matt serves as the Director of Employee and Public Safety at Wellspan-Evangelical Community Hospital where he leads the security and emergency management programs. In this capacity, he is responsible for the hospital’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Program, to include developing, maintaining, and revisiting all emergency plans and annexes for National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS) and PA Department of Health Compliance. He is also responsible for overseeing the Employee and Public Safety Department which is one of only 5 departments in Pennsylvania and 66 in the world that are designated as a Security Program of Distinction by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS). Matt currently holds the designation of a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator from the IAHSS. Matt has worked on a variety of planning projects with many county and state public health and emergency management agencies, hospitals, law enforcement, and private organizations. Matt has been a Pennsylvania Certified Firefighter/EMT for 26 years and has over 17 years of experience in emergency management. He was recognized by the Keystone Emergency Management Association as the Municipal Coordinator of the Year in 2015 and received the Paul R Beatty Partnership award in 2017. Matt currently lives in Lewisburg, PA with his wife of 16 years, Sara, his 4 beautiful children, Brady, Hailey, Aiden and Quinn as well as 2 kittens, 1 senior cat and a Labrador retriever. He considers himself an expert in the Incident Command System for being able to get all 4 kids out of the house on a school day on time.
